Happy Earth Day!

Finally, it's here! I'm so very excited. I actually spent the day going around town cleaning up with the Greens. Then, we were taught several different ways to conserve energy, water and natural resources. Some of the things we do on a regular basis can be harmful to the environment, and it's likely that we don't even know it. I won't get into detail about it, because I know not everyone wants to know every single thing they taught us today (or else they would have been there), but it is actually interesting. I hope that some day more and more people will realize how important it is to save our planet.

School's almost over. I'm almost a Senior! It was as if only yesterday I had started here as a lonely confused Freshman, but now things are starting to look up. I'm proud to say this school has helped me discover what I truly want to do in life and will help me get there somehow. I owe so much to my family, my Sorority Sisters, my professors and all the friends I've made while attending this school. I think I feel more like I'm graduating than just finishing up my Junior year now. Silly, isn't it? I guess maybe when that day comes, I won't really feel it. I'll feel it later on or something. Thinking about it though does put me in a right mood.

I also went over to the Santa Monica library and helped pass out trees for Treemendous. Free trees! The only catch is that you have to teach people how to plant them and take care of them. That was fun though. And of course, I came home to help with dinner and at seven on the dot, we shut off all the lights and unplugged everything for an hour. And we just ate outside and enjoyed nature. It was lovely, especially since I got to share it with my parents. I'll be looking forward to it again next year.

The musical was an absolute blast. Everyone did so well. Such talent! I was honored to be among such wonderful people. I suppose I should get back to studying now. Hopefully, everyone had a good Earth Day and is doing something to save the planet. GO GREEN!

Ciao!

Twenty-three days until Earth Day.

I'm so glad we went to that high school to bake cookies. I had almost forgotten how to do it. Mom and I usually baked when I was younger, but ever since I started college, we slacked on our cookie baking. I really miss those times when we actually had time to make cookies together. We would make brownies and cakes too. Mmmmm, and we'd get all full of flower. And then, dad would come home to this huge mess we had in the kitchen. But we would clean it up. Dad would help too. One time, he brought the hose INSIDE the house. Mom and I screamed. Silly daddy. Like Aaron, I brought some cookies back with me too. I left some at the Zeta House, but if anyone else wants some, I'll be more than happy to share. I made loads anyway.

Earth Day is less than a month away, and I'm so excited. I know the Greens are going to do something crazy for it. Well, not crazy, but they're planning a lot of things. Something they're doing is having an hour in which everyone just turns off all the power in their houses and gives Earth a break. It's called Earth hour. I think this is interesting. I've never just sat in my house or my room with everything off and given Earth a break. I'm sure I could survive for just one hour. It's going to be at seven at night. I wonder who else is going to be doing this. It'd be nice to see the lights off from seven to eight. No pressure of course, but I think it would be interesting if things were dark and quiet for a while.

I got a part in the play too! I'll be Mary Sunshine. It's going to be really exciting. I'm most excited about the singing though. It's amazing to watch plays and to see all the people with such beautiful voices. Everyone in the play is extremely talented, and I just know it's going to be a huge success for sure. I hope we get a nice crowd. I've already taken a peek at the costumes and the set design. So much talent in our little school. You wouldn't have realized it had we not put on this play. I really can't wait.

So until next time!

Ciao!

Thirty-three days until Earth Day.

No! This is not your obligatory Talk-About-Your-Spring-Break journal entry. However, now that you mentioned my Spring Break, it was lovely, thank you. Honestly, I enjoyed every last bleeding second of it. The weather was gorgeous, and I swear, I don't think I've laughed that much in my entire life. We definitely have some stories to tell, and I frankly would be more than happy to tell them for anyone who would like to hear. While I missed home, it was wonderful to be able to get away for a while, clear your head and rest, not having to worry so much over school and projects. I still looked around for the nearest Green institution, though I couldn't find one. Hmm, I guess it's already pretty green over there anyway.

Once we got back, I stayed with my parents for a while. Daddy managed some time off and was amused that I still couldn't get away from boarding a plane. Some times, it feels like my life is a mixture of plane rides and dirty houses. Maybe it is, and maybe it isn't. So long as my parents are here with me, that's all that really matters to me. We planted some nice roses in our backyard. I wonder if they'll do well. We had a fairly good winter this year, so hopefully, we'll have a good growing season. It was all going well, until my father started reciting Shakespeare. What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet. Yes, my father is sweet. What can I say? Mom loves it.

It's back to business though at the Z house. Time to get those wheels in motion once again. We all enjoyed our break, and now it's time to get back to work. I did some trash collecting yesterday by the park, by myself, wasn't with any organization or anything. I just happened to be strolling along, saw some trash, picked it up and tossed it. It's really that simply. I'm not one to tell people what they should and shouldn't do, but I believe the person who can't walk a few feet to the trash can or can't wait until they get home to dispose of their materials has poor character. I wouldn't dare go to anyone's house and start throwing my garbage all over the place. Well, the earth doesn't like it either.

And that's my sermon for today. Do with it as you will. Not too bad, huh?

10 March 2008

Forty-three days until Earth Day.

Oh, Spring Break, how I doth love you. The days are longer. The temperature is warming. The stress level is at its minimum. I could get used to this! Of course, you're likely wondering why I'm writing in my journal while I'm on Spring Break with some fab-fab girls. Well, I simply wanted to share my happiness with the world. Things seem to be going smoothly for the most part. I managed to give Mom a quick helping hand with a house before departing for the break. She was more than thrilled naturally. I miss her and daddy so much some times. And I know how very lucky I am to have both my parents together, happy and healthy. Plus, they give me just the right amount of love mixed in with just the right amount of freedom. I couldn't possibly ask for better parents. Mother Nature herself must have designed them just for me. How did I get so lucky?

So, here I am, lounging by the pool, oogling all the hot boys and calculating the approximate time at which they will realize their skins are scorching. Sunblock is a good thing, a good thing that very few people actually use. They also look like they're at the point of dehydration and don't even know it. As nice as drinking by the pool is, it's actually not very advisable. Alcohol dehydrates you, while the sun just burns you from above. There have been plenty of cases of heatstroke due to this. Now, that's bad. Something that can certainly put a damper on anyone's vacay.

But I guess I shouldn't be so worried about medical anomalies and should focus more on relaxing. I can't ever seem to do that right. My brain is always working, always processing, always...

Oh my gosh, the most adorable kitten just walked by. She's a precious, little thing, can't be more than a few months old. She looks so skinny though. :(!!!!! Let's see what I can do for her.

5 March 2009

Forty-eight days until Earth Day.

Pooped! Pooped is what I am. Pooped I tell you! I have not stopped today. Woke up a little late, ran to class, got there on time (FOR ONCE). After, I grabbed a coffee at the AB and went down to Greens to see what they were all up to. Seemed like they'd just gotten back from a planting down by Wilshire Blvd. I pretended not to be upset that they didn't wait for me. Pssh. Actually no, I kind of gave them the look of doom, and I think they got the picture. I don't blame them for going so early though. It's not as hot out in the morning, so it makes planting a little more bearable, especially while next to the concrete that just reflects all that sunlight right back up at you.

I was sad that I couldn't plant today though. I had to leave after just an hour of being there, grabbed some lunch and headed to my Chem II class. A POP QUIZ AWAITED ME. Dun dun duuuuun! Uhm.... May have bombed that. Not sure. :\ Anyway, then it was time for Vice Presidential duties of the answering emails variety. Only did that for half an hour, I must confess. I had to grab a change of clothes at the Z House before heading to see the parental units. And speaking of Z, how's my Lil sister? Get it? Lil? SIster? Lillia? Okay, maybe I shouldn't try to be funny. I miss you, Shorts! I'll make time for you tomorrow if you have time for me. I totes want to ask you about your job. Didn't see you there when I stopped by. P said you'd just left. SADNESS ENSUES.

So, dinner with the parents. I'm so glad Dad was home. He got to tell me about his flight. That always interests me...... To the point that I fell asleep on the couch. Heeeee. Poor dad. His stories really do interest me, but I was tired from the madness of the day. He leaves in two days again. This is kind of like a little vay-cay for him. Yay daddy time! After they woke me up, I had to trudge back to the Z House, and here I is! A little more rested and completely hooked to this thing.

I sure hope I don't oversleep tomorrow again. That totally throws me off.

Night everyone!
